After 30 some hours of labor (and a 10.5 hour second or "pushing" stage, with a rest for sleep), Madeline Jane Lowen arrived on Saturday, June 16 at 11:11 p.m. in a midwife-assisted hospital birth. She weighed 9 lb. 4 oz. and measured 21 inches long with a head circumference of 13.75 inches and a full head of curly black hair. Daddy pulled her out and place her on Mom's chest where he cut the umbilical cord. He accompanied her for the initial tests where she calmed down as soon as he heard his voice. Within three hours of birth she nursed for more than 45 minutes. Mom and baby are fully intact and feeling good. (Mom Jessica will write her birth story - the details of the labor and delivery - on her blog soon. Check back here for the active link.)
Here are some photos of the family during labor, immediately after the birth, and from Tuesday (day 3 of Madeline's life). They are low resolution (for the web). We love you all and hope they come through alright. We apologize for the sideways photos - working with the rotation feature takes a little more time that we've got right now. Enjoy!
Friday, June 15th: early labor, Mom enjoys a break between rushes (a.k.a. contractions).
Still in labor just a little later ... before heading to the hospital. (It's still Mom's secret that she is labor!)

Oh my goodness! What Nana Om said about Madeline is ever so true - she is BEAUTIFUL! So alert, wide-eyed, expressive & ready to take on life. She has an angelic look to her also & that is because she is one of God's little angels, sent to change your lives. "Father God, we thank you for Madeline. We are in awe of your creation in her. Give her parents all the knowledge & understanding that they need to raise her to be the woman you intend her to be. May they always be JOYful & committed to one another. Set 1 Cor. 13:1-13 firmly in their minds as the means to a solid family unit. Give them your daily PEACE. Amen"
We love you all.
Blessings on you,
Aunt Sue & Uncle Ron
